Common Signs of Canine Pain

Pup Not Acting Like Themselves Anymore?

Limping. Slowing down. Avoiding walks or play. Many dog owners are told this is just aging, part of the breed, or that expensive surgeries or long-term pain meds are the only options.

Dogs' pain is often misunderstood

Like Humans, Most Canine Pain Starts in the Soft Tissue

Tight, contracted muscles and fascia can restrict blood flow and lymph. This restriction pulls on joints and creates pain. When soft tissue is released, movement and comfort can return.

My 10 year old dog has had a worsening limp for a year. I am a physician and was honestly a little skeptical about the value of massage as well as the high cost but I had to try something for my running partner and best buddy. We had taken him to the vet and been through courses of anti-inflammatory meds, prolonged rest, chondroitin shots , and supplements without any improvement. After one treatment he is 90% better. His limp is barely detectible. He is a happier dog

Ken and staff have worked on my dog two times. She has a rotated front leg from birth and favors her opposite side and has a significant limp. After working on her she seems to have an ease and balance about her gate. She needs more work, and they are going to try releasing her neck, to see if that will help with a more complete and longer lasting release. Everyone who works on her is kind and obviously emotionally moved by the change and relief experienced by the dog.

When I found out that Ken and his team were working on dogs, Sierra popped into my head. Sweetest dog I ever had. We found her on the side of the road about six years ago, had been thrown from a vehicle. Paw pads torn off and back legs hyperextended. Vet told us she would always live in pain. After her first treatment she ran up the stairs to our second floor. She'd never been up there before. Up and down she went, like it was a game! Ken and his team have been keeping myself, family and friends out of pain for years and now MY BEST FRIEND!!!!!

We brought our dog who has a knee problem to try to avoid a very painful surgery. He is also very anxious and tends to shy away from almost any human. He has had two treatments with great success. His pain has definitely decreased and he is walking so much better. I highly recommend Moench to any dog owners who want to help improve the qualities of their dogs life.

Ken and all professionals performing Moenche Method are extraordinary. They worked on my Bernese Mountain dog puppy whose back arched due to his hip flexors being too tight. After one session the “arch” and subsequent discomfort were resolved. We will be going back for a recheck and “tune up”’ as Champ is growing leaps and bounds-as such we must keep their soft tissue pliable/loose so not to cause pulling on bones or structural issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

An initial canine session is $395 (which includes 1 follow-up session). If any additional follow-ups are needed, they would be $195. If we aren’t able to help your pup, there is no charge.

Just like people, it depends on the type of work that your pup needs. Other factors include whether it’s acute or is chronic, the pet’s age, and any physical compensation that has occurred as a result of the initial pain.

We will be doing the same work on your dog as we do on people, a technique that has been developed over the past 30+ years. It’s myofascial release aimed at the root cause of your dog’s symptoms. We are lengthening the shortened, contracted tissue that is causing your dog to have pain and restriction.

Every dog is different, but a good rule of thumb is that you can go run a couple of errands and come back and they should be done! You may also choose to hang out while they’re getting worked on, if you prefer… completely up to you!

Considering that most dogs have a well-balanced diet and stay properly hydrated, their soft tissue typically releases relatively quickly. What this means is that while they will experience moments of discomfort when we find a contracted muscle, it usually only lasts a matter of seconds before it relaxes.

Your pup may be a little tender for a day or two, similar to how they may have tender spots after receiving their shots at the vet. Also, try not to let your pup run loose without warming up first, as this could cause reinjury to the area that was worked. Just like humans, dogs need to warm up their muscles before they run. Give them a short walk on the leash before letting them do zoomies in the backyard! You should notice a positive change in demeanor and more range of motion in the areas that were previously short and contracted. They might try to do things, like jumping on the couch or rolling over, that they’d been hesitant to do before.
